Iris mamillations. Iris mammilations usually appear as bilateral, multiple, small, slightly elevated lesions on the iris surface. Their color is the same as the underlying normal iris. They do not produce any visual problems. Iris mammilations need to be differentiated from Lisch nodules, because they are not diagnostic of neurofibromatosis (Table 29–2). Lisch nodules are distinguished by their irregular distribution, difference in color from the underlying iris, and stuck-on appearance.
