To further the public’s understanding of COVID-19, BioDigital has created the first interactive 3D visualization of the coronavirus itself that causes COVID-19 and made it freely available for public use. Please see below one of these modules, which can be seen in full here.

The 3D interactive virus you are looking at depicts SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). This is the name of the virus that causes COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). This visual focuses on the surface proteins of the virus, including S (spike) protein, M (membrane) protein, and E (envelope protein), which hold clues as to why the virus is so contagious.
