As reported by Healio and other sources, the US Food and Drug Administration has approved Altreno, a new topical medication containing tretinoin 0.05% in a lotion formulation, indicated for patients aged 9 years and older with acne vulgaris. Manufactured by Ortho Dermatologics, this new product is intended to minimize irritation typically associated with topical retinoids, particularly those in a gel formulation.
The new product has been shown to be effective and generally well-tolerated, and is expected to be available during the fourth quarter of 2018.
Additional information about topical retinoids, including adapalene, can be found in the Top 300 Pharmacy Drug Cards.
