As reported by Healio and other sources, the US Food and Drug Administration has approved Altreno, a new topical medication containing tretinoin 0.05% in a lotion formulation, indicated for patients aged 9 years and older with acne vulgaris.  Manufactured by Ortho Dermatologics, this new product is intended to minimize irritation typically associated with topical retinoids, particularly those in a gel formulation.

The new product has been shown to be effective and generally well-tolerated, and is expected to be available during the fourth quarter of 2018.

Additional information about topical retinoids, including adapalene, can be found in the Top 300 Pharmacy Drug Cards.  If you or your institution subscribes to AccessPharmacy, use or create your MyAccess Profile to sign-in to the Top 300 Pharmacy Drug Cards.  If your institution does not provide access, ask your medical librarian about subscribing.
