Corneal epithelial basement membrane dystrophy. This common disorder disrupts the normally smooth optical surface of the cornea/tear film with ridges of epithelial irregularity. This may have a geographic appearance like a map, appear as dots on the surface of the cornea, or have irregular parallel ridges that resemble a fingerprint (hence, the alternative descriptive name: map, dot, fingerprint dystrophy). The map-like appearance and dots are evident on this clinical photograph of the cornea of a patient who presented with unexplained intermittent blurred vision.
