You are treating a patient with a right rotator cuff strain. The critical zone in the supraspinatus tendon is very susceptible to a tear because of the patient’s age. It is called the critical zone because the tendon has:

1. atrophy

2. hypertrophy

3. hypervascularity

4. hypovascularity
