Third cranial nerve palsy following herpes zoster ophthalmicus. A 71-year-old woman developed pain and vesicles in the distribution of the first division of the left trigeminal nerve. An acute, profound left third cranial nerve palsy occurred 2 weeks after the onset of pain, when the vesicles were healing. A complete ptosis is evident in this clinical photograph, along with the healing vesicles.
