Calcinosis cutis. An additional cutaneous finding, which is particularly characteristic of childhood dermatomyositis, is calcinosis cutis. This may present as firm, superficial nodules or plaques or as painful deposits of calcium in muscle or fascia. Treatment for this troubling disorder is challenging.
