Disseminated hemangiomatosis. Pictured in Fig. 23-28 is a neonate with multiple small hemangiomas. Children with this degree of cutaneous involvement may suffer from visceral hemangiomatosis. Liver, spleen, lungs, and the gastrointestinal and central nervous systems may be involved. Risks include high-output congestive heart failure, thrombocytopenia, and neurologic complications. If a complete workup establishes the presence of extensive visceral disease, early systemic therapy with propranolol is advisable.
